Philip Frobos of Omni Releases Captivating New Covers

Philip Frobos, the talented frontman of Atlanta’s post-punk band Omni, is back with fresh solo material. Following the release of his debut album Vague Enough To Satisfy in 2021, Frobos has been busy with the band, who recently celebrated their anniversary with a deluxe version of their debut album, Deluxe.

Now, he’s turning heads once again by sharing his unique covers of Sorry’s 2024 hit “Waxwing” and Jane Birkin’s classic 1973 track “Kawasaki.” Frobos describes his love for these songs, noting that “Waxwing” features dual drumming from Rodrigo Avendaño of Soccer Mommy and Jonah Swilley from Revival Season, recorded at Avendaño’s Atlanta studio.

In his own words, Frobos finds “Waxwing” captivating for its dark humor and dystopian themes. Similarly, his take on “Kawasaki” explores societal rejection and apathy, showcasing the timeless influence of Birkin, Gainsbourg, and Vannier in his music.

These covers are a testament to Frobos’s artistic range and his ability to reinterpret classics with a modern twist. Be sure to check them out!
