Big day for blockbusters! Obviously, Drake’s new album Certified Lover Boy is out today, and that’s taking up a whole lot of the oxygen in the room. But there’s also a new Marvel movie out today. Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings is an adaptation of a ’70s-vintage Marvel character that was conceived to capitalize on the popularity of Bruce Lee. The old Shang-Chi stories has plenty of racial stereotypes, but Marvel has tried to use the new movie to push against those stereotypes. As part of that effort, they got 88rising to put together the Shang-Chi soundtrack.

For the past six years, the music platform 88rising has been spotlighting Asian and Asian American artists in various different ways. Channel Tres debuted his “Topdown” video on their YouTube channel, for instance, and NxWorries performed their song “Where Do I Go” for the first time on an 88rising webcast last year. This fall, 88rising’s Head In The Clouds Festival will return, and it’s got a lineup that draws from a whole lot of different genres.

Head in the Clouds, the Asian music festival that debuted in 2018, expands to two days and grows into a larger venue for its third year. No lineup yet, but the fest is Nov. 6-7 at Brookside Park at the Rose Bowl.

The electronic producer 3LAU (pronounced “Blau”) makes bubbly, melodic EDM that packs stadiums; next month, he’s set to headline one of Red Rocks’ first concerts since the massive Colorado venue’s closure due to COVID last year.
