Right now, New York is in the midst of Homecoming Week, a series of outdoor concerts in all the different boroughs. It’ll all climax this weekend in Central Park, with a big show that’ll feature luminaries like Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, and the Killers. Before that, though, Bill de Blasio, the New York mayor who’s nearing the end of his second term, is taking every available opportunity to look like a giant dork around rap legends.

Amid growing concerns over the Delta variant of the novel coronavirus, New York City will become the first US city to require proof of vaccination for all indoor concerts, dining, and gyms. The New York Times report that enforcement will begin on September 13 following a health commissioner’s order and a mayoral executive order to implement the vaccine mandate, intended to put more pressure on NYC residents to get vaccinated and raise vaccination rates in the city.
