Turnstile made their late-night television debut last night on Late Night With Seth Meyers. The band performed two tracks from their latest album GLOW ON. “Making their late-night debut,” Seth Meyers says in his introduction, “Performing “MYSTERY” and “T.L.C.” off their acclaimed album GLOW ON, give it up for Turnstile!” Read more: Turnstile share highly […]

They did it. They fucking did it. Baltimore hardcore destroyers Turnstile didn’t just make one of the year’s best albums in Glow On; they also took that album out into the world in ways that no other contemporary hardcore band has been able to do. Last night, Turnstile were the musical guests on Late Night With Seth Meyers. This was the band’s first late-night TV performance ever, and it was also the first time a straight-up hardcore band has made a televised performance since I don’t even know when. (Where CIV ever on Letterman or anything? There must be some other example.)

Pushing The Tides,” the lead single from Mastodon’s latest album Hushed And Grim, just picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance. (Hushed And Grim won’t be eligible ’til next year, though the band has a good track record at the awards show.) And this week the band appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers to perform another song from that album, “Teardrinker.” Watch below.

Remember when Taylor Swift wasn’t doing interviews around her new records? Those days are over. Today, Swift has released Red (Taylor’s Version), the re-recorded version of her great 2012 LP Red. And she’s really out there promoting this one. Last night, in fact, Swift was on two different talk shows, Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show and Seth Meyers’ Late Night. She even wore different outfits to both shows! (Both shows tape in the same building, and Swift will still be in that building when she plays on Saturday Night Live tomorrow. But still, that’s commitment!)

Lorde is getting ready to release the new album Solar Power, and she shared her single “Stoned At The Nail Salon” yesterday. At the time that the song came out, however, Lorde was not stoned at the nail salon. Instead, right around there, she was getting shitfaced in a New York bar with Seth Meyers.

“Addicted” is one of the best songs of the year. The opening track and lead single from Jorja Smith’s new Be Right Back EP was extremely well chosen because it definitely grabbed my attention. The song harnesses Smith’s considerable talents as a proven master of British soul and refracts them back into the world at surprising angles. Against a backdrop of moody, Radiohead-esque rock — wispy keyboards, a stuttering snare drum, smoky guitars that seem to flicker in and out of existence — Smith shows off her poise and finesse in the face of heartbreak. Her voice darts and flutters across the rhythm with a casual grace, lightly pogo-ing into stretched out syllables that quiver with fine-tuned precision. “The hardest thing/ You are not addicted to me,” she sings. “I’m the only thing you should need.” She sounds like if Adele was more inclined to artfully sigh than to belt out glory notes.

Indie pop artist Ashe took to the Late Night with Seth Meyers stage last night performing an eclectic live performance of “Me Without You.” She offered a refreshing, vibrant show from inside a low-lit lounge, decked out with neon signs and lights. Ashe danced around the vintage-looking setting and revealed a balloon wall spelling “Ashlyn” […]
