In an exciting announcement for rock fans, Melissa Auf Der Maur is set to release her first new music in 16 years. The Montreal-born artist, known for her work with iconic bands Hole and the Smashing Pumpkins, will unveil her latest project titled BASS WOMB ROOM: My ’90s 4-Track Demos x Field Recordings on September 4 via Envision Records.
This new collection features seven previously unheard demos recorded in the ’90s, along with eight new interludes created for her upcoming exhibition, Melissa Auf Der Maur: My ’90s Rock Photographs, opening September 2 at the Art Gallery of Ontario. In addition, a 240-page photobook will be released on September 8 through DelMonico Books/D.A.P. and the AGO.
Auf Der Maur describes BASS WOMB ROOM as a glimpse into her creative process during a time of immense pressure from the music industry. “These songs represent my internal experimentation and a way of keeping the Montreal art girl alive inside,” she shared.
Adding to the anticipation, Hole is also teasing a special announcement this Friday, sparking speculation among fans about a potential reunion or re-release of their classic album My Body, The Hand Grenade.
