Pepper Keenan Reflects on Reed Mullin’s Legacy and Dave Grohl’s Kindness

In a heartfelt interview on The Garza Podcast, Pepper Keenan, guitarist and vocalist of Corrosion of Conformity, opened up about the profound loss of co-founding drummer Reed Mullin, who passed away in 2020. Mullin, a pivotal figure in the band’s history since its inception in 1982, struggled with health issues that ultimately affected his career.

Keenan shared that Dave Grohl, the legendary frontman of Foo Fighters and former Nirvana drummer, had offered to cover Mullin’s rehab costs, showcasing the tight-knit bonds within the rock community. “Dave Grohl had helped him with rehab, paid for it out of his own pocket, which was very kind,” Keenan recalled. This act of kindness is a testament to the support that exists among musicians.

Reflecting on Mullin’s talent, Keenan stated, “When he was at the top of his game, he was a fucking animal on the drums.” His creativity and influence were undeniable, and Keenan believes that if Mullin had overcome his struggles, the band would still be making waves in the music scene today.

Corrosion of Conformity recently released their double album, Good God / Baad Man, which serves as a tribute to their late drummer’s legacy. With new drummer Nick Shabatura now in the fold, the band continues to honor Mullin’s memory while pushing forward in their musical journey.
