PARADISE LOST’s Nick Holmes Embraces Gothic Metal Legacy

In a recent chat with Kati Rausch of Music Interview Corner, Nick Holmes, frontman of PARADISE LOST, reflected on the band’s pioneering role in the gothic metal scene. Holmes shared that while they didn’t initially focus on genre labels, they still proudly identify as a gothic metal band, especially given their influential early work.

“We don’t really think about labels too much, but we still have no problem calling ourselves that,” Holmes explained. He acknowledged that younger audiences may see them differently, but he remains unfazed by these perceptions.

PARADISE LOST, who have sold over two million albums since their formation in 1988, continue to inspire a new generation of metal bands. Holmes noted the generational influence in music, comparing their journey to that of legendary bands like CELTIC FROST and CANDLEMASS.

The band’s latest album, “Ascension,” released last September, showcases their evolution while paying homage to their roots. With a career spanning nearly four decades, PARADISE LOST remains a formidable force in the metal scene, blending heaviness with haunting melodies.
