Ethan Miller Revives Odyssey Cult as a Psychedelic Supergroup

Excitement is brewing around The Odyssey, but it’s time to shine a light on the Odyssey Cult. Led by Ethan Miller, known for his work with Comets On Fire and Howlin Rain, this band has evolved into a formidable psych supergroup.

After nearly a decade since the release of the first two albums, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, Miller has reassembled a powerhouse lineup for the new album, Vol. 3. This time, he’s joined by Comets On Fire bandmate Ben Flashman on bass, along with Anthony Taibi from Carlton Melton on keys. The trio has crafted a sound that is both expansive and fuzzed-out.

Adding to the mix, former Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, currently collaborating with Miller in Orcutt Shelley Miller, brings his expertise to the drums. The lineup also features Zoh Amba, who returns to the saxophone, alongside Brigid Dawson, Paula Frazer, and Inna Showalter, each contributing their unique flair.

The result is a collection of tracks that are raw yet grand, melodic yet noisy, striking a balance that is both familiar and exploratory. Vol. 3 is now available on Silver Current, and it promises to be a treat for fans of psychedelic rock.
