In a surprising twist, Australian prog metal guitarist Plini has found himself at the center of a musical controversy involving pop star Doja Cat. During the MTV EMAs, Doja Cat performed a heavier rendition of her hit song ‘Say So,’ which included a guitar solo strikingly similar to one from Plini’s 2016 album, Handmade Cities.

Plini, known for his laid-back demeanor, took the news in stride. “I watched it and thought, ‘Hey, that is similar,’ and then I watched it again and was like, ‘That’s really similar!'” he shared. Rather than pursuing legal action, he found humor in the situation, stating, “I just thought it was hilarious!” Doja Cat even reached out with an apology, suggesting that if the musical director was such a fan, they could have collaborated instead.

This unexpected attention has proven beneficial for Plini, who noted that it introduced his music to a wider audience. His latest album, Impulse Voices, has already gained significant traction, racking up a million streams shortly after its release. Plini’s unique blend of intricate melodies and accessible music continues to resonate with fans, showcasing his talent without the need for drama.
