Static-X Takes Legal Action Against Filmmaker Matt Zicari

In a surprising turn of events, Static-X has filed a lawsuit against filmmaker Matt Zicari, also known as ‘Lord Zane,’ for allegedly sharing unauthorized footage related to their documentary, Evil Disco. The lawsuit was officially filed in California on August 20, 2026, by band members Antonio ‘Tony’ Campos and Brian C. Ebejer.

The band claims that Zicari, who was previously contracted to work on the documentary, has been exploiting confidential materials for personal gain. According to the lawsuit, Static-X paid Zicari approximately $75,000 for his contributions before he voluntarily left the project about a year ago.

Static-X accuses Zicari of copyright infringement and is seeking over $1 million in damages. They allege that he has been soliciting financial support from fans while sharing clips from the documentary on social media.

In response, Zicari released a video stating that he plans to continue working on a separate documentary about the late frontman Wayne Static and his wife, Tera Wray Static. He firmly denied any wrongdoing, asserting that he did not steal any footage and plans to release his film in 2027.

This legal battle highlights the complexities of creative ownership and the challenges artists face in protecting their intellectual property.
