Exploring the Forgotten Supergroup Kryst The Conqueror

In the late ’80s, the remnants of the Misfits ventured into uncharted territory with their new project, Kryst The Conqueror. After the Misfits disbanded just before Halloween in 1983, founding members Jerry Only and Doyle sought to create something entirely different, distancing themselves from their horror-punk roots.

With a vision that blended heavy riffs and a quasi-religious sci-fi concept, they brought in vocalist Jeff Scott Soto, known for his work with Yngwie Malmsteen. Despite Soto’s initial enthusiasm, he ultimately felt the project wasn’t the right fit for him. The duo pressed on, releasing the ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ EP in 1990, but the reception was lukewarm at best.

As the ’80s gave way to the ’90s, Kryst The Conqueror faded into obscurity. However, the legal battles with Glenn Danzig over the Misfits name eventually resolved, allowing Jerry and Doyle to reclaim their legacy and reunite under the Misfits banner. While the ambitious plans for a sci-fi concept album and comic book were shelved, the story of Kryst The Conqueror remains a fascinating chapter in rock history.
