A little while ago, LCD Soundsystem announced plans to play a 20-show residency at Brooklyn Steel — not a small venue by most standards, but a small one by theirs. The first of those Brooklyn Steel shows went down last night, shortly after keyboardist Gavilán Rayna Russom announced that she was leaving the band amicably. The band didn’t play any new songs last night, but they did bust out a few tracks they haven’t played in a while and a couple of covers, including one that they’ve never done before.

AFI 'Bodies'

AFI certainly know how to rouse suspense—just look back to the effective erasure of vocalist Davey Havok‘s existence prior to The Missing Man announcement… Still, when whispers of their 11th album began in 2019, nobody suspected that it would take two years to actualize. Of course, we didn’t suspect that a pandemic was in the cards […]

post-punk, magazine, yeah yeah yeahs, pleasure venom, public image ltd

Post-punk had to happen. Punk rock opened all this space for people to make exactly the kind of art or culture that the disenfranchised had been imagining in their heads, and maybe had limited means or skills by which to make it. But what if you didn’t want to crank out recharged three-chord rock ’n’ […]
