Ann Wilson Reflects on Jealousy That Split Heart’s Classic Lineup

In a recent episode of the Magnificent Others podcast with Billy Corgan, Ann Wilson opened up about the tensions that led to the disbandment of Heart’s classic lineup. According to Wilson, jealousy was the primary catalyst for the group’s division.

As Heart skyrocketed to fame in the ’70s, media attention increasingly focused on Ann and her sister Nancy, leaving the male members feeling sidelined. “They were fine with it at first, but eventually, it became a source of frustration,” Ann explained.

This growing resentment, particularly from the male band members, created a rift within the group. Ann noted that when major publications like Rolling Stone sought interviews, they often only wanted to speak with her and Nancy, which intensified the divide.

Reflecting on her experience, Ann described feeling like a “real pariah” during that time, as she often spoke on behalf of the band. The classic lineup, which included guitarist Roger Fisher and bassist Steve Fossen, faced significant changes over the years, with only one reunion occurring during their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2013.
