Former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf der Maur is making her long-awaited return to music with the announcement of her new album, Bass Womb Room, set to drop on September 4 via Envision Records. This marks her first new music in over 15 years!
The album, subtitled My ‘90s 4-Track Demos x Field Recordings, will feature a mix of previously unreleased demos from the ’90s alongside eight new interlude compositions crafted for an upcoming exhibition of her photography. Auf der Maur describes this project as a journey back to her roots, stating, “These sounds are the quiet and private side of the girl who joined the big American major label rock band.”
Fans can look forward to experiencing a unique blend of ambient soundscapes that reflect her artistic evolution. Auf der Maur’s exhibit, Melissa Auf der Maur: My ‘90s Rock Photographs, opens at the Art Gallery of Ontario on September 2, just two days before the album’s release. This exhibition will also feature a special sonic installation, showcasing her deep connection to music and art.
