Peter Buck Confirms R.E.M. Will Never Reunite

In a recent interview, R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck made it clear that fans shouldn’t expect a full reunion of the iconic band. Reflecting on their storied career, Buck stated, “I don’t need the money and I’ve had enough applause to last 10 lifetimes.” This statement comes after the band’s brief reunion performance at the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in June 2024, marking their first onstage appearance together since the mid-’90s.

While Buck acknowledges the band’s rich history, he emphasizes the importance of preserving their legacy. “Everyone has their memories and they’re sacrosanct,” he noted. The last official R.E.M. concert took place in 2008, and Buck believes that their story had a definitive beginning and end.

Currently, Buck is focused on his new project, Drink The Sea, which features a talented lineup including Barrett Martin and Alain Johannes. Their third studio album, Drink The Sea III, is set for release on October 2, 2026, and the band will embark on a UK tour shortly after.
