In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Iron Maiden’s legendary bassist Steve Harris opened up about the band’s 1990 album, No Prayer for the Dying, which has often been criticized and ranked low among their discography. Despite its mixed reviews, Harris defended the album, suggesting that a minor tweak could have significantly improved it.

Harris noted that the album was an attempt to return to a more basic sound after the grandiose productions of their previous records. He mentioned that the influence of Bruce Dickinson’s solo project, Tattooed Millionaire, played a role in shaping the album’s direction. “I think it’s a really strong album,” he said, emphasizing that he aimed to create songs that allowed Dickinson to showcase a more raw vocal style.

Interestingly, No Prayer for the Dying was recorded in a barn using the Rolling Stones’ mobile studio, with the intention of capturing a live feel. Harris admitted that adding audience noise could have enhanced the experience. Despite the criticism, he remains proud of the work, stating, “If someone says they don’t like something, that makes me embrace it even more.”
