Gillis explained that the record label’s focus on these softer tracks created a misconception about Night Ranger’s identity. ‘I don’t consider us a metal band,’ he stated, emphasizing their roots in hard rock. He believes that the label’s insistence on promoting ballads limited their potential to explore heavier rock sounds.

Drummer Kelly Keagy echoed these sentiments, noting that after the success of ‘Sister Christian,’ the label pressured them to replicate that success, leaving little room for variety in their setlists. As they gear up to release a Best Of collection, the band is currently on tour, reminding fans of their rock roots.
