Ritchie Blackmore Reunites with Deep Purple After 30 Years

In a surprise announcement, legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore is set to reunite with Deep Purple tonight, August 12, in Wantagh, New York. This marks Blackmore’s first performance with the band he co-founded over three decades ago.

During an Instagram livestream with his wife Candice Night, the 81-year-old guitarist hinted at a special encore performance, stating, “I probably will get up and do an encore with the band Deep Purple.” He emphasized that it would be a casual appearance, simply for nostalgia’s sake.

Blackmore last shared the stage with Deep Purple in 1993, and since then, he has primarily focused on his project, Blackmore’s Night. However, this reunion has been a long time coming, as Blackmore expressed excitement about reconnecting with his former bandmates, including current frontman Ian Gillan and drummer Ian Paice.

As Blackmore prepares for this momentous occasion, he humorously acknowledged the challenges of competing with the current guitar player, Simon McBride. Despite health issues in recent years, Blackmore is eager to relive the magic of his rock roots.
