In a heartfelt tribute to the late Dolly Parton, Jack White performed her iconic song “Jolene” during his concert at the Eventim Apollo in London on August 23. This marked the first time White had played the song in nearly two decades, having last performed it in 2007 with The White Stripes.

Parton’s passing earlier that day at the age of 80 prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow musicians alike. White, a long-time admirer of the country legend, expressed his sorrow on Instagram, calling her an “instant saint.” During his set, he opened with his recent single “That’s How I’m Feeling” before surprising the audience with the emotional rendition of “Jolene.”

As he played, White pointed to the sky and clasped his hands in a gesture of gratitude, honoring Parton’s incredible legacy. The original version of “Jolene” was released by Parton in 1974 and became a staple in both country and rock music history, further popularized by The White Stripes’ unique take on the song.
