TELLUS Vinyl Anthology Features Sonic Youth and More

The legendary audio cassette magazine TELLUS is making a comeback with a new vinyl anthology, set to drop on November 20 via Earth Libraries. This collection, titled TELLUS: The Audio Cassette Magazine Anthology, Vol. 1, showcases the innovative sounds that emerged from downtown NYC in the ’80s, featuring iconic tracks from artists like Sonic Youth, Liquid Liquid, and Live Skull.

Originally launched in 1983, TELLUS was a platform for non-conformist artists and musicians, capturing the essence of a vibrant and eclectic scene. Co-founders Joseph Nechvatal and Carol Parkinson aimed to provide an alternative to mainstream music, and this anthology serves as a time capsule of that era.

The 30-song compilation includes remastered tracks from the original cassette masters, along with archival photos and new liner notes from Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore. Fans can look forward to hearing the opening track, Cargo Cult’s “Plaid City,” and many more gems from the past.
