Tony Iommi Explains Why He Rejected New Black Sabbath Album

In a recent interview with Classic Rock magazine, legendary guitarist Tony Iommi opened up about a proposal from renowned producer Andrew Watt for a new Black Sabbath album featuring the original lineup. Iommi revealed that while Watt was eager to create a follow-up to 2013’s 13, he ultimately turned down the offer.

Iommi explained that his hesitation stemmed from Watt’s lack of experience working with the original members, particularly drummer Bill Ward, who had been absent from the band since 2012 due to contractual issues. Iommi stated, “I’d met Andrew Watt when he was producing Ozzy. He was very keen and a bit too excited,” but he felt that revisiting the idea of a new album was premature.

Despite the band’s last studio effort, 13, Iommi expressed his concerns about the pressure of producing another record. He noted, “We’d done 13, and I didn’t like the idea of: ‘Now here’s another album.’”

While Black Sabbath’s legacy continues to resonate, it seems that a new album from the original lineup is unlikely, especially following the passing of Ozzy Osbourne earlier this year. Fans will have to cherish the band’s existing catalog and live performances as they reflect on a monumental career.
