Tim McIlrath Remembers His First Band T-Shirt at Louder Than Life

This past weekend at the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky, RISE AGAINST’s frontman Tim McIlrath shared a nostalgic moment about his first band t-shirt. In a conversation with James Wilson-Taylor from Rock Sound, Tim revealed that the first shirt he ever bought was a Metallica ‘Ride The Lightning’ tee, purchased back in 1991.

Tim fondly recalled the experience, stating, “I actually have it with me, ’cause I found it. I bought it in a mall called Town And Country, from a store called Potpourri.” He humorously noted that he wasn’t allowed to wear it to his Catholic school, except for one special Thursday each month, when students could express themselves through their clothing.

Co-founding bassist Joe Principe chimed in, reminiscing about his own first band shirt, which was from the CIRCLE JERKS’ 10th-anniversary tour. He shared a funny story about sneaking out to wear it, highlighting the rebellious spirit of youth.
