Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta recently opened up about a pivotal moment in his journey to sobriety, crediting Metallica’s James Hetfield for his life-changing advice. During a backstage encounter at an MTV event in 2008, Hetfield, who has battled his own addiction issues, encouraged Jasta to take his sobriety one show at a time.

“You just have to know that you can do a show sober,” Hetfield told him, a mantra that helped Jasta feel that overcoming alcohol was achievable.
