Phil Collins Opens Up About Near-Death Experience

Phil Collins, the legendary drummer and former frontman of Genesis, has shared a harrowing account of his near-fatal health crisis in 2024. In a candid interview with The Sunday Times, Collins revealed that he was hospitalized and placed on life support as his organs began to fail due to alcohol abuse.

Collins recounted, “My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up. People were coming to say goodbye.” Despite the gravity of the situation, he was unaware of the extent of his condition at the time.

After struggling with alcohol since 2012, when he first gave it up following a hospitalization for acute pancreatitis, Collins found himself back on the bottle by 2023. He admitted, “I’d have wine when I woke up; that was what I’d want for breakfast.” This led to another hospitalization, where doctors feared for his life.

Fortunately, Collins has since turned a corner, stating, “I was very lucky to have come out of that. Needless to say, I haven’t had a drink since.” He continues to face health challenges, including nerve damage that has left him unable to drum, but he remains hopeful for the future.
