Andi Deris Confirms HELLOWEEN Can Play Classics in Original Tunings

In a recent chat on Mr. Music’s “Meet My Guest” podcast, Andi Deris opened up about his journey with HELLOWEEN, particularly how he adapted his vocals after stepping in for Michael Kiske over three decades ago. Deris explained that while the band initially detuned many songs for easier performance, modern technology has made it possible for them to return to the original tunings.

He noted, “Nowadays it’s much easier. With technology, we can go back to the normal tunings again. It’s just a push of a button.” This advancement allows HELLOWEEN to deliver their classic tracks as originally intended, enhancing the live experience for fans.

Deris also discussed the benefits of sharing vocal duties with Kiske, stating that it provides a luxury of breaks that ultimately improves their performances. He humorously referred to their setup as having “two and a half singers,” which allows for a more sustainable touring schedule.

HELLOWEEN’s latest album, “Giants & Monsters,” released in August 2025, showcases their continued evolution in sound and performance capabilities. With their rich history and dynamic lineup, the band looks poised to entertain fans for many more years to come.
