In a surprising turn of events, ABBATH, the brainchild of former IMMORTAL frontman Abbath, cut their performance short at the SaariHelvetti festival in Tampere, Finland, on August 14. The band barely made it through two minutes of their opening song, “To War!” before Abbath, whose real name is Olve Eikemo, abruptly exited the stage.
Footage from the performance shows Abbath tossing his guitar aside in frustration, leaving fans bewildered. Following the incident, drummer Ukri Suvilehto addressed the crowd, explaining that Abbath has been facing ongoing health issues. He expressed the band’s regrets over the unexpected interruption, stating, “Let’s just say that it probably won’t come as a surprise to anyone that our lead singer is struggling with health problems.”
The festival organizers confirmed that the performance was halted due to Abbath’s health concerns. This incident follows a history of challenges for the frontman, including a controversial performance in Buenos Aires back in 2019.
ABBATH has been on the road supporting their latest album, “Dread Reaver,” released in March 2022. Fans are hoping for a swift recovery for Abbath and a return to the stage soon.
