Rock World Mourns the Loss of ZZ Top’s Frank Beard

The rock community is in mourning following the passing of Frank Beard, the legendary drummer of ZZ Top, who died on August 17 at the age of 77. Beard’s death was confirmed a day later, revealing he was surrounded by family at his ranch in Richmond, Texas.

Beard’s contributions to rock music spanned over five decades, making him an irreplaceable figure in the genre. ZZ Top continued to tour even after the loss of bassist Dusty Hill, with Beard’s health challenges leading to Michael Monahan stepping in on drums during his absence.

In a heartfelt tribute, Billy Gibbons, ZZ Top’s guitarist and frontman, expressed his sorrow on Instagram, stating, “Today, Elwood and I lost a great friend and collaborator, and the world lost one of the most naturally innovative drummers.” Gibbons emphasized Beard’s role in keeping the band at the top of their game.
