The Who Welcomes Back Zak Starkey for Farewell Tour Rehearsals

The Who are stirring up excitement as they seem to have rehired drummer Zak Starkey following a tumultuous split. Just last year, Starkey was let go for overplaying, only to be brought back and then dismissed again. Now, it appears he’s back in the fold.

During a solo performance at Las Vegas’ Encore Theater on August 26, Roger Daltrey shared that the band recently rehearsed with Starkey for a potential European leg of their “Song Is Over” farewell tour. Daltrey expressed enthusiasm, stating, “It sounded great,” according to a review in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Starkey took to Instagram to share his excitement, posting a picture of the review and writing, “Nice one Rog x. Lookin forward to tearin it up with The Who again.. The rehearsal was great.. I don’t think we’ve ever rehearsed as tough as that.” He added that Daltrey delivered a fantastic vocal performance on his song “Certified Rose.” In a statement to Rolling Stone, Starkey emphasized, “We rehearsed for an afternoon and were absolutely on fire. I’m so happy to be back playing the music I love with people I love. It’s good to be home.”
