Proposal to Rename Nashville International Airport After Dolly Parton Advances

Nashville is set to honor its beloved icon, Dolly Parton, with a proposal to rename Nashville International Airport after her. The campaign, which began in January, has gained significant traction following Parton’s passing on August 25.

On August 28, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and officials from Nashville International Airport (BNA) announced their intent to rename the airport to celebrate Parton’s extraordinary contributions to the state. Governor Lee stated, “Dolly Parton’s extraordinary life is forever woven into the fabric of our state. At a place where Tennessee welcomes the world, it is fitting that Nashville International Airport would bear the name of our state’s favorite daughter.”

Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell echoed this sentiment, highlighting Parton’s ongoing projects in the city, including the planned SongTeller hotel and museum. He remarked, “Now it’s our turn to share a love letter to Dolly by renaming Nashville International Airport to Dolly Parton International Airport in Nashville.” The proposal will be discussed at the Metro Nashville Airport Authority’s meeting on September 17.
