In a recent interview with Rock At Night magazine, W.A.S.P. frontman Blackie Lawless shared his thoughts on the impact of the PMRC (Parents’ Music Resource Center) from over four decades ago. Lawless emphasized that the controversy was more about political maneuvering than actual censorship of music.

He stated, “It was all about them trying to put a man in the White House. It was not about censoring records.” Lawless noted that the PMRC’s attempts to target bands like W.A.S.P. only served to elevate their visibility, making them a household name.

Reflecting on the intense scrutiny, he admitted that the experience altered his life significantly, leading him to become more of a recluse due to the numerous threats he received. He described fame as a double-edged sword, stating, “You do not get to pick and choose. So all the good stuff that you like in the smorgasbord, that’s wonderful, but you’ve gotta take the bad stuff too.”

As W.A.S.P. gears up for their upcoming “1984 To Headless” tour, kicking off on September 10 in California, fans can expect to hear hits from the band’s first four albums. The tour features special guests KK’s PRIEST and offers VIP experiences for fans, including meet-and-greets with Lawless.
