Tom Morello Shares Heartwarming Story of Teaching His Son Guitar

Tom Morello, the iconic guitarist from Rage Against the Machine, recently shared a touching story about how he introduced his son, Roman, to the world of guitar during the pandemic. Appearing on the Broken Record podcast, Morello revealed that he used Led Zeppelin’s classic, ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ to spark Roman’s interest in music.

Morello explained that he cleverly tricked Roman into learning the song by breaking it down into manageable parts. Starting with just three notes, Morello gradually built up Roman’s confidence, leading him to master the entire piece and even express a desire to learn the solo.

To further encourage his son, Morello called upon rock legend Jimmy Page for a favor. After Roman nailed the solo, Morello filmed him and sent it to Page, who responded with positive reinforcement. This connection blossomed into a friendship between Roman and Page, with Morello noting that they occasionally share dinner together.

Now 15, Roman has become a close collaborator with his father, contributing to Morello’s upcoming solo album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, set for release on September 25.
