The suit, lodged on September 16 in federal court in Georgia, stems from the striking similarity between the two names, which has led to public confusion.

According to court documents, Outkast’s André 3000 and Big Boi initially sent a cease-and-desist letter to Ovrkast in June 2025. Following this, Ovrkast reportedly agreed to change his stage name to Overkxst by July 15, 2026. The lawsuit claims that the Ovrkast name misleads the public into believing a connection exists between Wilson’s work and the iconic hip-hop duo.

Ovrkast took to Instagram to express his surprise over the legal action, stating, “I thought it was love?” He emphasized that he is simply trying to make a name for himself in the industry.

This isn’t the first time Outkast has defended their brand; they previously settled a lawsuit with the EDM duo ATLiens, whose name was inspired by Outkast’s 1996 album. As they pursue this legal battle, it’s clear that Outkast remains vigilant in protecting their legacy.
