Nicko McBrain Shares Wild Ozzy Osbourne Encounter

In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Iron Maiden’s drummer Nicko McBrain recounted a wild encounter with Ozzy Osbourne that he describes as life-saving. The semi-retired drummer, now 74, shared that their first meeting took place on a boat crossing the English Channel, where he was in a less-than-stable state.

McBrain recalled, “He said, ‘Do you remember me saving your life?’ I was like, ‘No?’” Ozzy claimed he stopped McBrain from stumbling overboard during the rough crossing. Despite not remembering the incident, McBrain was amused that the Prince of Darkness would recall such a moment.

McBrain joined Iron Maiden in 1982 and has had a storied career, including a recent return to the stage after recovering from a mini-stroke. He expressed gratitude for the support from his bandmates during his recovery, stating he could only feel “70 percent” of his hand during their latest shows.

As Iron Maiden continues their 50th-anniversary Run For Your Lives world tour, McBrain is also gearing up for the release of his autobiography, Hello Boys And Girls, set to hit shelves on October 22. The book promises an inside look at life with one of Britain’s biggest rock bands.
