The Smashing Pumpkins Celebrate 30 Years of ‘The Aeroplane Flies High’

Grammy Award-winning rock icons The Smashing Pumpkins are gearing up to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their beloved collection, The Aeroplane Flies High, with a special reissue set to drop on December 18. This reissue will be available in both a standard five-LP set and a limited-edition color LP set, marking its first vinyl release since 2013.

Originally launched in late 1996, The Aeroplane Flies High features expanded editions of all five singles from the acclaimed album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness, including hits like “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” and “1979.” The collection also includes covers of tracks by The Cars, Blondie, and The Cure, along with B-sides and rarities that showcase the band’s prolific creativity during this iconic era.

Alongside this exciting reissue, The Smashing Pumpkins are currently on their ambitious “Rats In A Cage” tour, which kicked off on September 30. This tour features two distinct sets: one honoring the 30th anniversary of Mellon Collie and another that spans nearly four decades of the band’s greatest hits and deep cuts.

As the band continues to celebrate their rich legacy, they also recently announced that Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness has achieved 11 times platinum certification, while Siamese Dream is now certified seven times platinum. With a busy year ahead, fans can expect more from The Smashing Pumpkins as they continue to push creative boundaries.
