The Cure is currently navigating a challenging moment as their iconic bassist, Simon Gallup, is unable to perform due to an unspecified illness. The band is in the midst of their summer tour across the U.K. and Europe, with performances scheduled through the end of August.

During a recent concert in Berlin on July 10, fans were surprised to see Eden Gallup, Simon’s son, stepping in to fill the bass role. Frontman Robert Smith acknowledged the situation during the show, expressing support for Simon and dedicating the song “Lullaby” to him.

In a statement on social media, the band explained, “Shortly before the first of our three Berlin Wuhlheide concerts yesterday, Simon was taken ill. His son Eden shifted sideways to save the show. Unfortunately, Simon is still not well enough to play, so Eden will be filling the bass breach again tonight. We hope you will join us in wishing Simon the speediest of recoveries – and Eden thanks!”

Eden continued to perform with the band for all three Berlin shows, which took place on July 10, 11, and 12. As of now, there has been no update on Simon’s health or when he might rejoin the lineup.
