Tributes Pour In for Death Metal Pioneer Mike Browning

In a heartbreaking loss for the metal community, drummer and vocalist Mike Browning has passed away at the age of 62. Known for his groundbreaking work with the influential death metal band Morbid Angel, Browning’s impact on the genre is undeniable.

Browning co-founded Morbid Angel in 1983, contributing to the band’s early sound that would shape the future of death metal. After his departure in 1986, he continued to innovate in the genre with projects like Nocturnus and Nocturnus AD, among others.

Profound Lore Records announced his passing on July 13th, honoring him as the “sci-fi death metal godfather.” They shared a poignant message: “Journey beyond the gateway to the outer void!” Morbid Angel also paid tribute, expressing gratitude for Browning’s contributions and extending condolences to his family.
