Jason Becker Celebrates Trevor Rabin’s Melodic Genius

In a recent interview, Jason Becker, the former David Lee Roth guitarist, expressed his admiration for Trevor Rabin’s work, particularly his contributions to Yes. Reflecting on his early days, Becker recalled a moment that left a lasting impression on him. “We hit play, and the opening chords of Yes’ ‘Rhythm Of Love’ sounded exactly like the beginning of the first song on my album, ‘Altitudes.’ I thought we’d stuck in the wrong tape!”

Becker, who has faced challenges in his career due to Lou Gehrig’s disease, shared how he and his bandmate Marty Friedman were captivated by Rabin’s creative licks and beautiful tone. They appreciated the balance between unpredictability and melody that Rabin brought to his music.

“He’s definitely underrated,” Becker remarked. “He has soul, and I love that he’s eclectic but still feels it all in his heart.” Becker even borrowed a lick from Rabin for his own track, “Electric Prayer For Peace.” While he acknowledges the influence of Steve Howe, he admits that Rabin’s style resonates more with him.

Becker’s passion for Rabin’s work is evident, and he hopes to meet him someday. With praise for albums like “Jacaranda” and “Can’t Look Away,” it’s clear that Rabin’s impact on Becker’s music journey is profound.
