In a recent episode of The Magnificent Others With Billy Corgan, Tommy Lee shared his thoughts on the emotional fallout from Motley Crue’s split with longtime guitarist Mick Mars. The drummer described the situation as ‘awkward and really hurtful,’ reflecting on the challenges the band faced during this turbulent time.

After Mars retired from touring in 2022, he became embroiled in a lengthy legal dispute with the band, alleging financial misconduct and claiming he was unfairly removed from the group. An independent arbitrator ruled in favor of Motley Crue, ordering Mars to pay over $750,000 in unrecouped tour advances. Lee expressed his sadness over the situation, stating, ‘There is only one Mick and he’s an insane player.’

As the conversation shifted, Lee praised guitarist John 5 for stepping in and revitalizing the band. He noted that John 5 brought a much-needed ‘shot of adrenaline’ to their performances, especially as Mars’ health declined due to ankylosing spondylitis. ‘It was really becoming a struggle,’ Lee admitted, emphasizing his respect for both Mars and John 5.
