In a candid reflection, Ghost frontman Tobias Forge shared the harrowing experience of severe food poisoning that forced the band to cancel their highly anticipated concert in Mexico City last September. The show, which was to be filmed for their upcoming documentary 2 Big To Rig, was the first of three performances scheduled at the iconic Palacio de los Deportes.

Forge arrived in Mexico City five days prior to the shows, hoping to acclimatize to the altitude. However, on the day of the concert, he found himself unable to keep food down, ultimately leading to the decision to pull the plug just two hours before showtime. “I was lying on the floor, dizzy and hurling,” he recalled, emphasizing the difficult choice to cancel a performance with fans already gathered outside.

Fortunately, the remaining shows went off without a hitch, and Forge humorously addressed the crowd during his return, joking about being a “gringo” facing the “curse of Montezuma.” The band adapted their filming plans, capturing footage from the subsequent performances, which Forge described as a relief given the pressure of the situation.

As Ghost takes a hiatus to focus on family, fans can look forward to 2 Big To Rig hitting theaters and IMAX screens worldwide on August 26.
