Tool has taken fans on a remarkable journey, evolving from their grunge and alt-metal origins into the realm of progressive rock. This transformation became even clearer when the band made their discography available on streaming services in 2019.

Initially, their early works like the 1992 EP Opiate and 1993’s Undertow showcased a more straightforward sound. However, with the release of Ænima in 1996, Tool began to explore complex time signatures and deeper lyrical themes, setting the stage for their future.

Tracks like ‘Forty Six & 2’ and ‘Third Eye’ from Ænima exemplify this shift, blending intricate musical structures with profound concepts. As they progressed into albums like Lateralus and 10,000 Days, the band’s sound matured, featuring atmospheric soundscapes and elaborate compositions.

Most recently, their 2019 album Fear Inoculum continued this trend, showcasing lengthy tracks that push the boundaries of rock music. With their unique blend of heavy riffs and progressive elements, Tool remains a defining force in the genre.
