Tony Iommi Declines Final Black Sabbath Album Opportunity

Tony Iommi, the legendary guitarist of Black Sabbath, has revealed that he turned down the chance to record a final album with the original lineup. In an exclusive interview featured in the latest issue of Classic Rock magazine, Iommi shared insights about the proposal made by producer Andrew Watt.

Watt, known for his work on Ozzy Osbourne’s last two albums, approached Iommi in the early 2020s with the idea of reuniting the classic lineup for one last project. Iommi expressed that while Watt was enthusiastic, he lacked the experience of working with the original band, particularly with drummer Bill Ward, who had previously backed out of the recording sessions for their last album, 13.

Iommi stated, “I’d met Andrew when he was producing Ozzy. He was very keen and a bit too excited. We’d already done 13, and I didn’t like the idea of: ‘Now here’s another album.’” This decision comes after Black Sabbath wrapped up their farewell tour, The End, in early 2017.

Fans can look forward to Iommi’s upcoming album, From The Dark, set to release on October 23 via BMG, which promises to showcase his iconic sound.
