Joy Division’s Stephen Morris Opens Up About Feud with Peter Hook

In a recent interview, Joy Division and New Order drummer Stephen Morris shed light on his ongoing feud with former bandmate Peter Hook. The tension dates back nearly two decades, stemming from Hook’s departure from New Order in 2007 amid creative disagreements and turmoil within the band.

Morris described Hook as “quite an angry person,” expressing concern over his former bandmate’s apparent unhappiness. “He doesn’t seem happy. He was happy in Joy Division, I think, but even that I’m not entirely sure of,” Morris remarked. The rift has only widened since New Order continued without Hook’s involvement in 2011, leading to lawsuits and a deepening divide.

As both bands prepare for their joint induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this November, the possibility of reconciliation seems slim. Morris expressed doubt about whether he would attend the ceremony, citing personal health issues and skepticism about the event’s significance. He humorously suggested that if Hook were to attend, it might result in an “angry speech.”
