Tony Iommi Reveals Andrew Watt’s Ambitious Black Sabbath Plans

In a recent interview with Classic Rock, legendary guitarist Tony Iommi opened up about an ambitious plan that producer Andrew Watt had for Black Sabbath. Back in the early 2020s, Watt proposed the idea of producing a farewell studio album featuring the classic lineup of the band, a concept that ultimately did not materialize.

Watt, known for his work with late vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, aimed to gather the original members, including drummer Bill Ward, for a proper send-off. However, Iommi expressed reservations, stating, “I’d met Andrew Watt when he was producing Ozzy. He was very keen and a bit too excited.” He also emphasized the challenges of working with the original lineup, particularly given the history surrounding Ward’s absence from the 2013 album, “13.”

Despite the missed opportunity for a new album, Black Sabbath did reunite in July 2025 for a final performance at the ‘Back To The Beginning’ festival in Birmingham, UK, featuring Ward on drums. This event marked the last live show for the iconic band’s classic lineup, just weeks before the passing of Ozzy Osbourne.
