In a surprising turn of events, Oasis has initiated legal action to prevent the auction of a significant collection of unheard recordings known as The Desk Tapes. This collection, which includes 63 concert recordings, over 100 hours of rehearsal tapes, and candid conversations among band members, was set to be auctioned by Littleton Auctions this coming weekend.

The tapes, originally owned by the band’s former sound engineer Huw Richards, had been passed down to his son, Owain Richards, who was overseeing the auction. The estimated value of this archive ranged from £1.2 million to £1.6 million, but potential buyers were warned that commercial use of the recordings would require the band’s consent.

Oasis’s legal move comes after the Gallagher brothers expressed their desire to reclaim the tapes, stating they do not want them sold. Littleton Auctions confirmed that the recordings have been withdrawn from the auction due to the ongoing legal proceedings, leaving fans and collectors disappointed.

As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how this legal dispute will unfold. For now, the auction is postponed while both parties seek a resolution.
