In an electrifying performance, Mike Patton introduced his project Mondo Cane to Mexico for the very first time on October 1, as part of the Festival Internacional Cervantino’s Circuito CDMX-INBAL. The concert took place at the iconic Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, where Patton showcased his unique take on Italian pop classics from the ’50s and ’60s.
The highlight of the evening came during the encore, where Patton seamlessly transitioned to beloved Mexican songs. He captivated the audience with renditions of the traditional “La Llorona,” Álvaro Carrillo’s “Luz de Luna,” and Juan Gabriel’s “Hasta Que Te Conocí.” Midway through the performance of “Retrovertigo,” a track from his band Mr. Bungle, Mariachi Gama 1000 joined him on stage, adding a vibrant flair to the show.
The choice to cover Juan Gabriel was especially poignant, as the late pop icon had a storied history with the venue, performing there multiple times in the ’90s. Mondo Cane’s next stop is in Guanajuato for the festival, promising more unforgettable moments.
